The Player’s Handbook is a book of rules for the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game. It contains all the core rules of the game, information on how to create and play characters, descriptions of worlds and monsters, extensive guidelines for the Dungeon Master (DM), and lots more.
The book is divided into six main sections: an introduction, basic rules and concepts, character creation, adventuring (including combat), magic items, and spells. The introduction contains information on what role-playing games are and how they work. The basic rules describe how to play the game. Character creation involves creating a character that can be used in play by rolling dice to determine its characteristics. Adventuring includes information about parties of adventurers who explore dungeons in search of treasure and other rewards. Magic items are magical items owned by characters or monsters; there is also a section on artifacts that are unique magical items that cannot be possessed by player characters or monsters. Spells are magical powers some creatures possess; these are listed alphabetically in this section.
